Allentown Arts Apprenticeship program

This eight-week after school art program is a
fun, free art program that allows kids to explore painting, drawing, and clay
through various, hands-on activities. Taught by a professional
artist. All artistic levels are welcome to join the program. FREE.
Time: Wednesdays, 4:00-6:00; Orientation: Wednesday, October 11th
Grades: 6,7,8, & 9
Schools: All Pittsburgh schools; preference given to residents of South Pittsburgh
The Arts Apprenticeship program gives middle school students the opportunity to explore three different art forms under the instruction of professional artists. This year, students will rotate through Clay, Print Making, and Drawing/Mixed Media, giving each student the opportunity to explore all three courses in depth and within a small class setting. Students also have the opportunity to participate in several special group experiences throughout the year, Opera Connections events, and a final art exhibit at the close of the program.

New Artists - Phillips Elementary
Time: Mondays, 2:40-4:00
Grades: 3, 4, & 5
Our New Artist program at Phillips Elementary School is deigned to spark elementary-aged children’s interest in visual arts. New Artist: Phillips Elementary, is a particularly unique program in that it brings a professional artist with expertise in several artistic genres, into the after school setting. The program exposes students to many of the fundamental behind the creation of visual art and gives children at all artistic levels the space to produce their own pieces.

St. Clair Village After School Program
Time: Tuesdays and Fridays, 3:30-5:00
Grades: K-8
The St. Clair Village After School Program program provides a safe place for children to go after school. On Tuesdays, children are invited to create arts and crafts projects in a non-threatening environment; on Fridays, children are encouraged to develop their computer skills as they play or work in the St. Clair Computer Lab.

Boys’ Mentoring Program
Time: TBD
Grades: 4th and 5th
The Boys’ Mentoring Program connects 4th and 5th grade boys to college mentors. The children enrolled in this program are selected by school personnel and matched with an individual mentor from Duquense University. Drawing upon resources from Murray ALA, Duquense University, and the Brashear Association, the Boys’ Mentoring Program provides students with the tools to develop social skills, leadership, and positive behavior, as they participate in games, activities, and special field trips with their mentors.

Description:
Food pantry services provide food and other commodities to low-income individuals
and families. The food pantry serves the communities
of Arlington, Arlington Heights, Beltzhoover, Bon Air, Carrick, Knoxville, Mt.
Oliver, St. Clair Village and South Side. Participants may obtain food every
thirty days. During the holiday
season, services also include special distributions of food vouchers and toys.
These distributions take place in cooperation with St. Clair Citizens Council.
Other services partners include the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and
Hunger Services Network.

Description:
Information and referral services are offered to the community at large and
include all responses to telephone, walk-in and mail inquiries concerning all
agency services as well as those available through other entities. I/R services
also include the agency's quarterly newsletter and press releases to local community
newspapers, churches and newsletters.

Description:
With funding from Pittsburgh Community Services, the self-sufficiency program
provides comprehensive case management services to unemployed and underemployed
South Pittsburgh residents. The program works to link clients to the programs
and services needed to attain family self-sufficiency. Up to forty clients can
be served each year.

Description:
Senior services are provided five days a week at both centers. Service elements
include congregate meals, socialization and recreation, volunteer opportunities,
transportation assistance, education, counseling and information and referral.
Program enrollment is 145 senior adults. Service partners include Allentown
Senior Citizen Center and Citiparks.
Effective July 1, 2007: The Brashear Senior Program Hours will be Monday through Friday; 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

DISCOVER SOUTH SIDE is a camp of daily adventures in Pittsburgh’s South Side. Children will take walking field trips to various businesses and cool places in the community. Camp will include interactive tours and fun activities! Discover South Side concludes each day with the free lunch program at Ormsby Recreation Center.

ALLENTOWN EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM consists of four weeks of afternoon fun and creative exploration. Children will engage in art activities as well as games, sports, and projects. Please note that that any student enrolled in the Grandview Summer School will be walked by Brashear staff from Grandview School to the Extended Day Program at Bethlehem Lutheran Church – This provision will allow parents of summer school students a full day of care for their children.
